Who Am I?
Does your child ask questions about their birth parents, why they were unable to care for them, or about life before you became their parent?
Do you ever worry about saying the wrong thing or not having all the answers? These questions are not a problem to fix. They are part of your child’s natural and healthy journey toward understanding who they are.
As a family uniquely shaped through adoption or guardianship, your role in supporting your child’s identity development is both powerful and lifelong. This workshop is designed to give you practical tools, language, and confidence to walk alongside your child as they explore their story.
What You’ll Learn
Practical ways to talk about your child’s past in age-appropriate, honest, and supportive ways
Guidance on what to say when you don’t have all the information
Strategies for supporting your child’s connection to their birth family, culture, and community
Insight into balancing your role as a parent while honoring your child’s full identity
An introduction to Life Books and how they support identity development (with opportunities to continue this work in future therapy)
This workshop is grounded in evidence-based research on identity formation and permanency. It is inspired by the Seven Core Pillars in Adoption and Permanency by Sharon Kaplan Roszia and Allison Davis Maxon.
Facilitated by Becky Marksteiner, an adoption-competent therapist, this workshop blends clinical expertise with compassionate, real-world understanding of adoptive and guardianship families.
You’ll walk away with tangible strategies you can begin using immediately, and the reassurance that you are not navigating these conversations alone.
This workshop is perfect for:
Parents, through adoption or guardianship raising children of any age who are navigating questions about identity, belonging, and their life story.
Identity develops over a lifetime, but the foundation you help build now will stay with your child for years to come.
Register today and take an intentional step toward supporting your child’s story with honesty, connection, and care.
