Emily Watkins

Perinatal Specialist

Welcome! If you're navigating traumatic events, postpartum struggles, grief, identity disruption, or life transitions, I offer a compassionate, trauma-informed space for individuals and groups. You are the expert on your own life. My goal is to help you strengthen your ability to listen to your internal wisdom and gut instincts.

My career began with a strong foundation in power-based violence prevention on a college campus, where I spent over a decade responding to and preventing sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, harassment, and child abuse. This background deeply shapes my clinical practice today.

I believe deep healing happens within safe, authentic relationships where you never have to carry your burdens alone. In our work together, you will always remain in control while I provide unconditional positive regard, trauma-informed skills, new strategies, and grounding support. To tailor care to each person's unique path, I weave together evidence-based and integrative modalities, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), IFS (Internal Family Systems), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and mindfulness-based approaches.

Drawn to supporting parents through life's most profound shifts, I am actively pursuing my Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C). This passion is deeply personal. My own transition into motherhood involved navigating two NICU stays, rediscovering my sense of identity, and experiencing the unique joys and challenges of raising identical twin newborns and a toddler. I am dedicated to walking alongside parents as they navigate the complexities of building and nurturing their families.

We all have the ability to heal from traumatic experiences, and I can't wait to be a part of your post-traumatic growth.

Outside of my clinical work, I love spending time with my husband, our three young sons, and our Labrador Retriever. Amidst the beautiful chaos of family life, you can usually find me enjoying a warm or iced latte (depending on the Maryland weather), getting lost in a good book, trying a new recipe, playing board games, or spending time in nature.
